Rotary International will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. And the city of Stockton holds the distinction of being closely connected to two past presidents of Rotary International. Stanley McCaffrey, former president of University of the Pacific, served as Rotary president from 1981-1982. The theme of his term, "World Understanding and Peace through Rotary," conveys the purpose of this voluntary organization with clubs all over the world. Clifford Dochterman, a former Executive Vice President for University of the Pacific, held the Rotary presidency from 1992-1993. "Real happiness is Helping Others" was the motto for his year in office. To honor the centennial anniversary of Rotary, The Haggin has worked with local Rotarian Stan Thomas to create a display featuring photographs and other Rotary International memorabilia, primarily from the collection of Cliff Dochterman. The museum is grateful to his daughter, Claudia Dochterman of Morada, for making these items available for this tribute, to Rotary and the two Stocktonians who served it with such distinction. |
