Weird Science:
Medicine from the Past

June 17 - August 19, 2007

Nature's Pleasant LaxativeCurious cures can be found in The Haggin Museum archives. This mini-display, curated by outgoing Data Entry Specialist Heather Mellon, reveals some of the most surprising medicinal treatments advertised and prescribed to Stocktonians from the 1880s to 1930s.

Included are hand-written remedies, advertisements with breathless copy (Astonishing Antidotes for All that Ails!), medicine samples and testimonials.

Although it’s not for the weak of stomach, this mini-display will provide museum visitors with the opportunity to see all they ever wanted (or never wanted) to know about maladies and their purported cures from days gone by.
