Docent History Classes
2005-2006

Docent tour in the Vehicle GalleryIf you like working with children and adults and are interested in history, this is the chance you've been waiting for.  Our docents welcome visitors, as well as offer tours of the museum to over 6,000 children and 2,500 adults each year.  Teachers find our history and art tours make an important contribution to student learning.  Adults are impressed by The Haggin Museum’s collections.

Training classes for new docents will begin on September 15, 2005 and end in early May 2006.  Weekly classes on the museum’s history collections will be held on Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, with a break from Thanksgiving through the New Year's holiday.

These classes will feature interesting and engaging lectures on local and state history by Museum Director and Curator of History Tod Ruhstaller.  You will learn about the area’s Native Americans, the history of Stockton, the contributions of a variety of ethnic groups to our community, the history of the museum, and many other topics.

Trainees will also work with the museum’s education staff and experienced docents on techniques for presenting tours to a wide variety of groups that visit the museum.  You will learn how to make history come alive for both children and adults.

It's not too late to get involved!  If you are interested, call Curator of Education Susan Benedetti at 209-940-6315 or Assistant Curator of Education Elisa Barosso at 209-940-6332 or send an e-mail to education@hagginmuseum.org.  We look forward to hearing from you!
