Telling stories through images will be the focus of this family festival taking place in conjunction with the J.C. Leyendecker exhibition. Leyendecker was a hugely popular and successful commercial artist who helped define the magazine cover as a new art form. His skill as a draftsman and dynamic paint work sold products, but more importantly, communicated a broad range of human emotions to the public audience. Join us for some 'old school,' kid-friendly projects with a modern twist. Our family festival explores some of the techniques used before computers helped us create mass-produced images. Build a book of your own, explore cartooning and layout and learn how images tell a story. Finish your afternoon by making a traditional symbol of good luck. The Haggin Museum Education Department is proud to feature artist Brett DeBoer, professor of graphic design at the University of the Pacific, and local artists Ruth McMaster and Joy Neas in this festival for families with children ages 5-12. All materials will be supplied. Participation in the festival is included in museum admission. For more information contact Lisa Cooperman at (209) 940-6315 or education@hagginmuseum.org. |
