James is a scholarship student of Richard Aaron at the University of Michigan School of Music, and previously appeared at the Haggin in 2006. Following three years in the Central Valley Youth Symphony, James joined the Sacramento Youth Symphony. The winner of their annual Concerto Competition, he performed as a soloist with the orchestra and toured with them to Brazil.
