Marty MatsonFor its first concert in the fall, the museum will welcome Marty Matson, winner of the Stockton Symphony’s 2006 Young Artists Concerto Competition. He will be accompanied by pianist Stephen Thomas.

A student of Dr. Warren van Bronkhorst, Marty has won other competitions, including the 2005 Merced Mozart Competition and the Stockton American String Teachers Association Competition three years in a row. He will return this summer as a guest artist at the Sonora Bach Festival and is concertmaster for the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra and Turlock High School Orchestra.

Marty’s passion for playing the violin began at the early age of three. At four, he was playing chamber music and at the age of six, he was a member of the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra. He practices 2-3 hours each day, listens to new music regularly, and loves performing with other musicians.

He is looking forward to collaborating with Dr. Stephen Thomas, Chair of the Department of Music at California State Stanislaus, in the planning and performance of this recital.

Marty’s ambition is to become a solo performer.

“Put me in front of an audience, the bigger the better,” Marty says, “and I will share my heart and soul through my violin.”

Seating will be available starting at 2:00 p.m. For more information, contact Susan Benedetti at (209) 940-6315 or sbenedetti@hagginmuseum.org.
