Stockton Opera Preview:
Pagliacci and Gianni Schicchi

Saturday, November 5, 2011
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Included with regular admission: Free Admission Day on the first Saturday of the month.

Maestro Peter Jaffe explores a double bill of beloved Italian operas, one tragic, one comic, to be performed by the Stockton Opera this season.

Leoncavallo’s famed love tragedy Pagliacci delivers a “play within a play” by depicting characters in a commedia dell’arte troupe. Puccini’s brilliant comedy Gianni Schicchi provides comic contrast, with family members bickering over the will of their recently deceased relative.

Maestro Jaffe will take visitors through the historical background, plot and musical elements of both masterpieces while also playing musical examples at the piano. Cast member Jessica Siena will regale visitors with arias. Post-talk questions are welcome.

Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact Lisa Cooperman at (209) 940-6315 or education@hagginmuseum.org.

This event is included with regular museum admission. The first Saturday of each month is a Free Admission Day, so this event is free to all visitors. For disabled access, please call the museum ahead of time at (209) 940-6300 or 940-6317.
