While the museum’s temporary exhibitions are planned years ahead, mini-displays are much smaller in scope, usually limited to a case or two in one of the museum galleries. They provide the opportunity to highlight the museum’s collections and honor anniversaries and special events in the Stockton community.
The exhibition Fairy Tale Art: Illustrations from Children’s Books provides the perfect opportunity to share some of the enchanting storybooks housed in the museum’s Library/Archive. The books in this mini-display cover an era known as the American “golden age of illustration."
Before the internet provided unlimited access to the world around us, other mediums were found to bring the distant world back home. Beginning in the 1840s, this medium was the stereoscopic photograph, or stereocard.
The remarkable scope of valentines in the museum's collection allows staff to present unique mini-displays. This year's collection features valentines from different countries and cultures around the world.
The Stockton Ports partnered with The Haggin Museum to display their legendary history of baseball in Stockton. Included in the display were historic photographs of the 11-time California League Champions, as well as uniform samples, current photos and more. |
