The Haggin Museum has published a beautifully-designed, hard-cover catalogue that provides an enduring remembrance of this remarkable exhibition.  It features full-color reproductions of all the works in the show and biographies of each artist.  In addition, brief essays by curators John Cosby and Gil Dellinger provide their perspectives on the exhibition.  A longer essay by art historian Jean Stern places the works featured in this show in the wider context of the history of American art.

PICTURING CALIFORNIA'S OTHER LANDSCAPE:
THE GREAT CENTRAL VALLEY

Exhibition Catalogue
Edited by Heath Schenker, Published by Heyday Press

This 200-page full-color catalogue was published in conjunction with The Haggin Museum's 1999 exhibition, Picturing California's Other Landscape: The Great Central Valley. It is on sale for $35.

Best known for its fertile soils and bountiful crops, the landscape of the great central valley is often celebrated for its utilitarian, rather than aesthetic, value. The catalogue — featuring a stunning selection of historic and contemporary paintings, photographs, tourist art, advertising images, and maps—allows us to view the landscape of the Central Valley through the eyes and sensibilities of more than 65 visual artists. Through text and images, this book examines the portrayal of the Central Valley over the last 150 years: as promised land exploitable resource, paradise lost, a source of unexpected life and beauty. These provocative images challenge the popular perceptions of the Central Valley, suggesting new and expanded ways of viewing its landscape.

STEPHENS BROS BOAT BUILDERS AND DESIGNERS

This catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition, Stephens Bros. Boat Builders and Designers.  The catalogue by Barry J. Ward features 58 pages and more than 60 historic Stephens photographs. It is on sale for $15.

The Museum Store began in 1991 as part of the museum's 60th Anniversary celebration,

thanks to the generous support of Ross and Marilyn Bewley.
